The Arc of Wake County

Triangle United Way

Information and Referral Services

The Arc of Wake County is committed to providing advocacy services to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Advocacy can occur on both the individual and systems levels. Many of our requests are with assistance with the IEP process. The IEP team is composed of several school personnel but you the parent has a major voice in what you would like to see for your son or daughter. IEP assistance can take form in several ways

  1. answering questions over the phone
  2. personal consultation prior to the meeting usually 1-1 ½ hours
  3. referral to Department of Public Instruction’s “facilitated IEP process” occurs when there is an already existing problem and the use of a facilitator can be used to reach an agreement – there is a brief application process and the service is at no cost
  4. referral to the posted Dispute Resolution Comparison Chart and provision of assistance with completing complaints
  5. linkage with a parent to parent support person that will advocate for you at the IEP meeting – (if available)

The Arc of Wake County provides information and referral to all callers with regards to services for people with developmental disabilities. The Arc of Wake County does not make comment on the quality of the service providers. If someone from Wake County is looking to receive services it is important that he or she first contact Wake County Human Services Screening Line at (919) 250-3133.
