The Arc of Wake County

The best tool in the box...information.

When we think about the care and services a loved one with a developmental disability needs, it can be overwhelming. Their individuals needs, their disability, and a host of other things contribute to how we, as their support system, can assist them. These are our children, siblings, relatives and friends.

  • Often that first phone call after a child receives a diagnosis is the hardest, but it is the most important. Who can help us?
  • Getting ready to move to a new area can also create uncertainty. Will my family member be served the same way?
  • Transitions remind us all over again how often we need to re-assess and find new services. Are we prepared?

The Answer? The Arc of Wake County has been serving the disability community for 60 years. Founded by parents, The Arc has always had its roots grounded in the area of advocacy.

Empowering Voice and Choice
through knowledge and information.

The Arc of Wake County offers advocacy, information, and referral services for individuals and/or families who need assistance in negotiating the often complex system of services. This is accomplished through the following methods…

  • Providing guidance to individuals regarding the correct route in which to proceed by linking with and collaborating with other advocacy and administrative agencies.
  • Encouraging and promoting an individual’s involvement with The Arc of Wake County’s People We Are, self advocacy group and the Kiwanis’ Aktion Club.
  • Providing regular information and support events like our Teen to Adulthood program, as well as representing The Arc and its membership at local events like Marbles’ Family Fun Night.
